First Year Experience

About FYE

One of the primary goals of Cal Poly's First Year Experience program is to help First Year students achieve Peak to Peak Performance. We know that First Year students were high achieving students in high school and the First Year Experience program is committed to helping First Year students continue to achieve at a high level at Cal Poly. To this end, here are some things you can expect from the FYE (First Year Experience) program:

New FYE Website - "http://firstyear.calpoly.edu" - to include:

• A Student Chat Room and an FYE Blog Site
• Faculty Resources and Information
• Resources and Information for Parents

Weekly Electronic Newsletter for FYE students - to include:

• Study Skills Tip of the Week
• The Health Lives Tip of the Week
• Resource of the Week
• Quote of the Week

Faculty Workshops offered in partnership with the Center for Teaching and Learning, regarding:

• Key Components of First Year Courses
• Fostering a Sense of Community within the Classroom
• Tips and Resources for working with First Year Students

Research regarding First Year Experience programs and courses:

• Relationship between First Year Student Sense of Community and Student Retention
• Relationship between First Year Experience courses and Student Academic Success
• First Year Experience course components and the associated student outcomes
